"Don’t be afraid to expand yourself, to step out of your comfort zone. That’s where the joy and the adventure lie"

“CREATIVE EXPRESSION”

I found the courage to leave my comfort zone. I would daydream about making pottery; my hands, the clay, creating brilliant glazes, shapes, from my heart. These thoughts made my heart pound.

I met many people that shared my passion and desire, but I was not ready. My daughter took a pottery course in college and I said to myself “Hey, you are the one who wants to learn pottery - what are you waiting for?”

In the summer of 2001, at the age of 51 I gathered my courage and began my dream. Entering the classroom, I felt immediately exhilarated. Surrounded by creative people fulfilling their passion, my passion.

Five years later, my heart still pounds and my excitement grows with the magic of clay in hand. Coiling, pulling, and twisting this clay to my satisfaction. It takes shape, becoming a unique piece of pottery. Then, I sit back - my spine tingling with pleasure - and admire my work.

The final and most exciting step is firing my creations in the kiln. The anticipation reminds me of a little kid waiting to get her “dream toy.”  When I open the kiln, I feel pride and revel in the delight of my achievement. “I created these wonderful pieces of pottery me, Terry Famigletti, me.” I find it astounding.

This has turned out to be an incredible lesson that inspires my personal growth. Pottery has been a blessing; building my confidence and creative expression, which now flows through the rest of my life. It just keeps coming.

It is never too late to pursue your dream. Whether you are 15 or 55. Follow your heart, do not be afraid to try, try, and try. You are saying to others:

Have courage and follow your dream.
